How Can I Manage Stress and Prepare for Thanksgiving?

How Can I Manage Stress and Prepare for Thanksgiving?

Every year, one of the most anticipated celebrations in America, Canada, and other parts of the world is Thanksgiving. There’s the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York, the Black Friday Sale in almost all cities, and many more. Some say Thanksgiving started as religious practice while others claim it’s started as a festival to celebrate successful harvests. Regardless of its origin, Thanksgiving has become one of the most celebrated traditions in North America.

What first started as a festival to give thanks for a successful harvest became a massive celebration to show gratitude and to be with family and loved ones. Thanksgiving today is a time to come home, forgive, rebuild and rekindle relationships, and spend quality time together.

Thanksgiving in America was first celebrated in 1621 when Native Americans and English colonists shared an autumn harvest feast in Plymouth. The English colonists who settled in Plymouth were composed of various individuals aboard the Mayflower ship. These Pilgrims came from different backgrounds and with varying religious beliefs hoping to find a place where they can practice freely. In November 1621, when their first attempt at yielding crops proved to be successful, the then Governor invited the Native American Chief and their allies to a feast which is now considered as America’s ‘first’ Thanksgiving.

The second Thanksgiving feast was celebrated in 1623 to commemorate the end of the drought and surviving the previous year. Over the years, Thanksgiving became more significant as each year brought forth things or events that people should be thankful for. In 1789, President George Washington declared Thanksgiving as a holiday special to celebrate the successful ratification of the US Constitution and to commemorate those who have lost so much during the country’s journey to independence. Other major events that were celebrated or commemorated during Thanksgiving included the Civil War, the Great Depression, and more.

Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated not only in commemoration of events that have shaped the past years, but it also became a tradition of gathering family and friends. Thanksgiving is not just a holiday but a tradition of ‘coming home’. People who haven’t seen each other for a long time will find themselves reconnecting with each other during Thanksgiving dinner and rebuilding friendship and familial relationships. It gives people an opportunity to set aside their differences, talk, resolve conflicts, and past issues, or simply share a family meal together. It is a time to focus more on things that they are thankful for and celebrating the joys of life, form new bonds, and strengthen familial ties over dinner.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it can be a stressful time for some people, especially those anticipating an emotional reunion with their families due to strained relationships and personal clashes and conflicts. Being together can trigger negative feelings and painful experiences.

Others can be feeling stressed over the preparations, of making sure that their Thanksgiving dinner meets their family’s expectations.  For others, the current pandemic and travel and social distancing restrictions can be causing additional stress.

If you are experiencing Thanksgiving stress, we have Psychics, Medium, and Clairvoyants who can help give advice, deliver a message or help you open yourself to resolving issues and forming healthy relationships with people so you can heal emotionally and spiritually.

Thanksgiving is an important occasion that brings families and friends together. It is a day to have an open heart, a calm mind, and a healthy soul so that we can fully celebrate life and everything that we are grateful for this year and enjoy the company of our loved ones. This year, Thanksgiving is celebrated on Thursday, 25 November 2021.
